It’s time once again to pick up all I own, To leave town and go on the road all alone. Now I’m not the kind to complain or to moan, But has it gone on too long? A master of magic, I know every spell And where I got some of them, I’ll never tell, Will my secret methods condemn me to Hell? That isn’t where I belong. They say that the Devil has given me aid. It got me the interest of many a maid. The stories ran wild and made people afraid. What used to be fun went wrong. When I hear the sound of the gathering mob, When I am the one who they’ll beat up and rob, I think that I may have done too good a job, And now I must flee the throng. For now they are coming and ready to roust Me out of my lodgings, and then they will oust Me from this fair city. “Get out of here, Faust!” We never can get along. Can I spend my whole lifetime out on the run? I’ve been too long drifting, it’s time to be done. For many a year I’ve been thinking of one Of the people I’ve lived among. And there is a place where I ought to return, A woman whose love I’ll endeavor to earn. I’ll give up my wandering ways as I learn The words of a better song.

Magic is a power dangerous and wild. Would you let it loose, give it to a child? Magic is a door to the World Behind. If we went across, what things might we find? Magic is reserved only for the few, In improper hands, what things could it do? Men of Christian faith, true to God in soul, Are the only ones worthy of the role. Bridge: It’s a way which is hard, I know, But God wills that it must be so. Laws must keep us safe, laws must guard our lands, Place the dreadful power in good Christian hands. Keep enforcement strict. Keep compliance strong. Trials must be fair, telling right from wrong. Witches must be stopped, kept from doing harm. Bind their power with iron, let them cast no charm. Bracelets stop the flow, make their power naught, But it is the pyre if again they’re caught. Bridge: We will show mercy when we can, But we must not deny God’s plan. Fire can destroy, fire can protect. Likewise spells can have good or bad effect. They can tear things down, they can make things whole, Some will even bring peril to the soul. Look the other way, that’s the easy path, But it takes the hard to escape God’s wrath. While we have the chance, we must make it stop. What if you could buy magic in a shop? Bridge: There is risk when a spell is cast. To prevail we must all stand fast. Think upon the cost, Think of what could be, If the spells could spread uncontrollably. Magic sold in stores, spells in every hand, Turned to any use, anyone’s command. Magic is a power that we must restrain. Else untrusted hands will bring grief and pain. Firm we have to stand, strong the line we draw, Keep the power in check underneath the law.

Changes are happening in the world Changes in thought and in life. Once there was one church for every soul, Now disagreement and strife. Rome used to give us all our beliefs, In our land new voices rise. We have to find what is true or not, Now we must open our eyes. Knowledge is spreading throughout the world, Questioning what we thought true. Travelers going across the sea, Finding lands we never knew. Does the sun still go around the world, Or is it now the reverse? Things that for centuries stayed the same Now change, for better or worse. One came to heal and redeem the world. Preachers now earnestly claim People descended from his own kind Bear condemnation and blame. “Tear down their houses and burn their schools. Kill and destroy for the Lord.” Is that how we ought to do his will? What then will be our reward? There's an insanity in the world Which I cannot understand. Through a glass darkly, I see a way Into a different land. Where are the answers, how are they found, What is it that I should do? Somehow I’ll find or I’ll make a path, Searching to learn what is true.
